Permohonan maaf yang takde maknanya:-

Former NTUC Membership Assistant Director Amy Cheong, who was earlier Monday dismissed from her post for offensive comments she made against Malay weddings, sent the following statement to the media on Monday afternoon, as reported by Channel NewsAsia:

To all I've hurt and offended:

I am terribly sorry to all who were affected emotionally, mentally and in all other aspects. I am aware of the pain I've caused through my insensitive remarks on social media. Please see me as a person offering my most sincere apology.

There was no racism intended in my post. I was trying to rest and the noise was affecting me greatly however I do understand that this is not a valid reason to post what I did. I was wrong and am repentant.

As soon as I realised how it has affected Singaporeans, I promptly took down my post and issued my apology. I apologised through Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp, hoping that you could see my immediate genuine regret.

I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me for my mistake.

Yours in repentance,

Amy Cheong

The Amy Cheong saga… fast, furious, unbridled

Faster than you can say "Amy Cheong", her recently vacated job is up for grabs -- on the same day she was dismissed.

Super efficient on the part of her employers, labour union NTUC? Or maybe a tad insensitive?

In a post that is making its rounds online, local news satire blog The New Nation pointed out how career site, Jobstreet,  began advertising a vacancy for "Assistant Director (Service Quality), Membership" on Monday afternoon -- the same post that Amy Cheong held before her infamous Wedding-Gate post.

Call it the nature of social media or the way news spreads lightning quick in this day and age but that about sums up the Amy Cheong saga.

By Monday morning, Facebook, Twitter and other blog, news and social media sites were lighting up, triggering a firestorm of online and offline reaction to her offensive post.

Consider the timeline of events.
Late on Sunday (07.10.2012) evening: Amy Cheong makes Facebook post
Monday (08.10.2012), around 3am:  First petition calling for Amy Cheong to be fired springs up on Facebook
7am: Her post starts going viral on Facebook, Twitter and social media
9am:  Mainstream, online  media and local blog sites begin to pick up on the story
10am: NTUC chief Lim Swee Say makes first public comment
1030am: Police report filed against Amy Cheong by member of the public
1230pm: NTUC issue statement of Cheong's dismissal
Sometime in the afternoon: Vacant position advertised on Jobstreet
530pm: Amy Cheong issues full statement of apology

Served you right Dol.. Within a space of less than 24 hours, her world has collapsed -- she's lost her job, her career, her reputation and maybe even her friends.  She is also potentially facing criminal charges and a fine or jail time.

It's not the first time, and my guess is it won't be the last.  Earlier this year, two 17-year-olds were also arrested after making racist remarks online.

But this is news in the social media age. Fast, furious and unbridled when unleashed.

So.. for those yang tengah mencarik kerja atau nak bertukar kerja.. nie ada kekosongan untuk di isi.. baru dipostkan di Job Street to fill up bigot position.. =D

Singapore’s ‘Go Plastic’ phenomenon: In pursuit of plastic perfection

Plastic surgery in 2012 is hot, especially among the young. Fast becoming a topic discussed as flippantly as what to have for lunch, non-invasive procedures like fillers can be done in less time than it takes to finish your meal.  8 out of 10 women in Singapore aged between 20 and 25 will soon have had some form of aesthetic work done to their faces or bodies, doctors told Yahoo! Singapore.  In the second and final part of our series on the 'Go Plastic' phenomenon, ELIZABETH SOH and GAIL CHAI speak to local bloggers Peggy Heng and Jacqueline Koh about their costly pursuit of (plastic) perfection.

They are both attractive female bloggers in their 20s, self-employed and happy with where they were in life.
Confident, well-spoken, and positive about life, both young women have supportive families and stable friendships.

But here's something else they have in common -- Peggy Heng and Jacqueline Koh, both left Singapore for the land of K-pop and kimchi, underwent tens of thousands of dollars worth of plastic surgery, and came back new girls. In Jacqueline's case, she has shelled out over S$130,000 over the years in a radical, plastic makeover to transform her body and face.

An endorsement for one, a quest for perfection for the other
For blogger, model and pageant contestant Peggy, 22, the decision to have plastic surgery came after she was approached by Seoul-based aesthetic centre Item Plastic Surgery.

She accompanied a good friend to the centre's Singapore branch -- her friend was there for a pre-trip consultation and she had come along to offer support.

"The clinic manager recognized me and they asked if I wanted fully sponsored plastic surgery to enhance my face," said Peggy, "I thought, since I was tagging along with my friend to Seoul anyway, why not?"

Her parents respected her decision and were supportive after she explained to them that the clinic was an established and well-known one. Less than a week later, she was on a plane and on her way to South Korea.

Full-time blogger Jacqueline, on the other hand, had been planning and saving for months before deciding to take the plunge.

"I already felt before my surgeries that I was very pretty — I just wanted to be even prettier. From 10/10 to 100/10 to even a million out of ten," she said, explaining her decision to undergo extensive surgery.

"I also felt I had some lines on my face, and I'm paranoid about ageing. I have applied facial masks every single day since I was 18, I take any kind of collagen, powder, bottled drinks," said the 29-year-old.

Her then-boyfriend meticulously researched medical journals, testimonials, and different procedures before helping her decide on a clinic and the number of surgeries she would undergo.

Both girls went with friends who also underwent plastic surgery, and both said that it helped make them more comfortable with the idea as well as supported during the post surgery healing process.

Transformation vs enhancement
Peggy and Jacqueline both went to their Korean surgeons knowing what they wanted fixed. Peggy, who had been teased and called "horse-face" when she was young for her pronounced underbite, wanted a more "three-dimensional face shape" and sharper side profile, as well as bigger eyes and a higher nose bridge.

"To be honest, I was already very confident in my looks. I just thought, why not, if I can be even prettier. Even if I had not done the surgery, I wouldn't feel ugly or bad about myself," said Peggy during a recent interview at the Yahoo! Singapore office.

"I wanted an enhancement, not transformation. I still want to look like Peggy, like myself." She decided to go for epi and lateral canthoplasty to widen her eyes for a "doll-like" expression, as well as cheek and forehead implants using fat from her own body to give her face more definition.

To correct her underbite, she underwent a procedure to trim her chin line, and rhinoplasty to raise her nose bridge.

Jacqueline, on the other hand, wanted a more "cute and pretty" look.

"I wanted a cute face more than a pretty face — although guys like sexy more than cute but I was doing it for myself.. and I wanted something cute, like Angela Baby," she said with a laugh, referring to the Hong Kong model-cum-actress.

Unfortunately, Jacqueline's surgeon told her that her face shape would not be suited to Angela Baby's features, but suggested procedures which would give her the look she wanted.

Jacqueline also underwent the same procedures for her eyes and nose, but decided to go for the full works, also doing  chin augmentation, otoplasty to push back her ears,  a zygoma (cheekbone) reduction to make her face smaller, and double eyelid surgery.

"Did I want a transformation? Yeah, why not? "I don't mind if it's going to be awesome," said Jacqueline with a laugh.

What they also agree on is that nothing prepared them for what they looked like, post-surgery, and after the anaesthesia wore off.

"My whole face was super badly swollen and my eyes could barely open," said Peggy.
"I felt like I was in a daze, and it was totally surreal, I couldn't believe that it had happened."
But unabashed, she was out the next day exploring Seoul -- bandages and all -- shopping, eating, and enjoying  the city to the horror of friends and family.

"My doctor actually told me that moving around after the operation would help the healing process and improve my circulation. I wasn't in much pain at all, in fact moving around helped distract me," said Peggy, who remained unfazed despite receiving many curious looks from Seoul-ites in public.

"At one barbecue place, the Koreans at the next table even congratulated me on my surgery and treated us to an extra plate of meat!"

Jacqueline, on the other went into a panic post surgery and became depressed. 'I felt ugly and suicidal'
"I started freaking out and telling the doctor, can you reverse this? Oh my god, why do I look like that, I don't want the surgery anymore, can you make me what I looked like before?" said Jacqueline.

"I looked like a pig, I totally couldn't imagine that I would look better after the bandages came off. I felt 'cheated' and depressed about my swollen face."

Unhappy with the look of her chin, she decided to undergo an additional procedure the day after her operations to get it fixed.

"I didn't take many pics up close because I felt ugly and suicidal," blogged Jacqueline.

For Peggy, the most agonizing part of the surgery was removing her stitches... and not being able to wash her face for four days.

"When my eye stitches were being removed, wow, that was painful. I was tearing non-stop and crying out in pain. But the worst part was not being able to wash my hair. I ended up getting ripped off and paying $40 to get it washed at a salon -- they knew I was desperate," she said.

Danger of plastic surgery addiction?
Post-Korea, both Jacqueline and Peggy told Yahoo! Singapore that they do not intend to get any more procedures, dismissing the idea that they would become "addicted" to plastic surgery.

"Been there, done that, I'm really happy with my face. The thought of getting anymore done never crossed my mind -- that's why I did so many things at one go -- so I don't have to undergo anything else," said Peggy.

"I don't think I will undergo anymore procedures," said Jacqueline, who added that she saw her transformation as the end of a long, painful, and bumpy journey towards reaching her ideal look.

"My husband worried about complications, like risk of cancer, health problems, so he is not supportive of me going for more surgery."

No stranger to going under the knife, Jacqueline had previously received breast implants and undergone Vaser liposuction here in Singapore, which turned out to be a nightmare experience.

"The liposuction was the worst. The doctor was really terrible — the Vaser liposuction left me with "wavy" arms because the fat was not distributed properly," said Jacqueline,  "I didn't know then that it was a very common problem, but even a GP can do Lipo, and if they do not have an aesthetic eye, it can become a disaster."

"I even woke up halfway during my operation and I started screaming from the pain. I was under twilight local anaesthesia, meaning the area is numb, but I'm half asleep."

Hate mail
Both girls have blogged extensively about their plastic surgery experience at their blogs jacquelinekoh.com and thy-dowager.blogspot.com, responding to floods of enquiries and e-mails from curious readers.

"When I was doing my research, I was looking for a real-life experience but there was nobody. Forums were not detailed and the information on forums can be fake. I had a very difficult time doing my research -- every girl was unwilling or evasive. So if I can share my experience and help others, why not?" said Jacqueline, who receives over 200 e-mails a day asking for advice and help.

However, she is also worried about how young some of her readers asking questions are -- some just 14.
"The first thing I ask (my readers) is how old are you — it's very very important that you don't undergo surgery because it's a trend. It doesn't work like that -- what if you're older and you don't want to look like that anymore?" said Jacqueline.

"In your teens, you can't see the consequences — they want instant results, think everything is going to be fine and dandy, but it's not like that."

And while she gives advice, she refuses to disclose the name of the clinic where she had her surgery done.
"I don't want random people to flood his (her doctor)'s office and blame me if there's a bad job. Queries from readers can get invasive, if it's too much I just block them."

Peggy says that 9 out of 10 of her readers and feedback has been positive. For haters, she's learnt to simply brush them off.

"I've always been controversial, there are always people criticizing me, my face, my looks. In my line (as a model and pageant contestant), this is something you have to deal with, so I am not worried," said Peggy, who used to be bullied as a child.

"I recently won a beauty pageant, and of course people said I'm fake so it's not "real", but who cares, I won anyway, not them."

Likewise, Jacqueline says that "a very thick skin" has helped her ignore naysayers, despite her husband's concern about some of the nastier e-mails calling her "fake", "plastic", and some even threatening her.

"He's protective about me -- he doesn't want other people to think badly of me, but I'm happy go lucky, and I tell him it doesn't affect me at all."

Both girls said that their decision to go public about their surgery, however, is not for everyone, especially if one has low self-esteem.

"There are definitely still social taboos against plastic surgery. But you don't owe anyone an explanation --the surgery was done to yourself," said Jacqueline.

I would say don't talk about it or confess anything unless you're very very secure, because the criticism can be really bad."

"At the end of the day, you have to love yourself first. I know it's cliche, but if you don't already love yourself, no plastic surgery in the world will make you more confident or feel truly more beautiful," said Peggy.

'Bagel-heads' are latest trend in Japan

Ko baca tu Jah tajuk berita terkini.. "bagel-heads".. bagel tu apo ehh?? macam donut gitu kan.. macam tak caya lah pulokk.. tapi percaya lah.. bukan cuaca sekarang je tak menentu.. pemikiran manusia pun tak menentu.. dari yg elok2, nak di tambah sana sini.. aduhaiii.. katakan kita kalau terjatuh ke.. terhantuk ke.. terkena dahi, benjol dahi, malu kan nak keluar, takut orang nampak dahi benjol.. tak pun jerawat yang tumbuh kat muka.. tu pun rasa tak keruan.. abis segala mak nenek ubat letak nak kecut kan jerawat tu..

Having a doughnut-shaped protrusion on your forehead may seem horrifying, but in Japan, that's just what some people are doing.

According to citizen journalism site, Stomp, the latest facial modification trend requires saline solution to be pumped into your forehead for two hours.

Then, pressure is applied to the centre of the swollen area to form an indent. The lump is said to last only for a day, before the solution is absorbed into the body. And it is not just men who are sporting the extreme look.

Whether it is to look attractive or different, some people just want to stand out from the crowd.
Another reported trend are girls who go to great lengths to look like plastic dolls.

Besides spending hours putting on make-up, some even undergo cosmetic surgery to widen their eyes and sharpen their features.

From China, the UK and Ukraine, these girls' amazing yet bizarre looks have garnered significant attention.

To get this kind of face.. memula dorang akan suntik saline tu.. bukan sikit tau.. banyak..

The future king and his wife Catherine were served durian, revered in the region as the "king of fruits", during a welcome lunch with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak after their arrival on Thursday for a three-day visit.

VIDEO: PM Singapura Fasih Bercakap Melayu

PERDANA Menteri Singapura, Encik Lee Hsien Loong, memuji masyarakat Melayu/Islam atas kemajuan besarnya sejak negara mencapai kemerdekaan.
“Bak kata peribahasa, bulat air kerana pembetung, bulat manusia kerana muafakat,” kata Encik Lee
Menyentuh mengenai budaya Melayu pula, Encik Lee mengumumkan pertandingan mereka bentuk bangunan Wisma Geylang Serai.
Beliau berharap masyarakat akan mengambil peluang memberikan idea bagi menjayakan projek tersebut. (Berita Harian Singapura)

The best part is.. because of this forum.. so many people commented and only one simple comment really catch my eyes.. comment from Zuikei.. Alhamdullilah Syukran..

Happiness for Malays - Faith, Family, Relationship, Grateful, Happiness & Harmony.

Happiness for Chinese - Car, Condominium. Credit Card, Career & Company.

This is the article from Yahoo:

A letter on The Straits Times forum page has gone viral, with the author questioning why Malay Singaporeans are having more babies than the rest of the other races in Singapore.

The provocatively headlined letter, “Do Malay husbands know something the Chinese don’t?”, appeared on The Straits Times Forum page on Wednesday. The online version of it has been Facebook-shared over 8,000 times to date.

In an eight-paragraph letter, writer Ivan Goh compares the total fertility rate of Chinese in Singapore (1.08), Indians (1.09) and Malay Singaporeans (1.64) and essentially asks why the TFR rate for Malays is so much higher.

“Perhaps the Government should find out why Malay women are more willing to have babies,” he wrote.

He continued: “Are Malay men more romantic, persuasive and less stressed out by life’s perceived demands than Chinese men? Do Malay couples have a more viable network of caregivers?”

Reaction to the letter has been mixed, with some praising it for sparking debate on what is generally a taboo topic, while others said it displayed great ignorance of the issue.

ST reader Luzanne wrote, “Nice catchy title but the article displays great ignorance of the issue… Just like Catholicism, Islam strongly emphaises on kids and family above material acquisition and selfish ambition. But more importantly , it forbids abortion and contraceptives. Malay culture encourages early marriages. High divorce and remarriage rates also increase the total number of kids in a family. THOSE are the main reason for Malays’ higher fertility rates.”

When asked about the letter, 26-year-old project manager Nur Anisa told Yahoo! Singapore she agrees with the point Goh made about having a strong network of family caregivers.

"Grandmothers, aunts and even neighbours are willing to take care of the children if the mothers have to work, and we do have a very close-knit community--that really does help," she said, adding that Malays place a great amount of value and emphasis on the family and in having families.

She stressed that Malays do not dismiss the importance of career progression and financial security, but said simply that they typically value their families much more.

"So having a family isn't seen as a burden for most of us -- we see children as a 'blessing from God', even if they might be unplanned during a marriage," she said.

She pointed out, however, that contrary to what Goh wrote, confidence isn't necessarily the key factor to having more children.

"I don't think it's much about what Malay men have in terms of confidence, it's just the values that the Malays hold on to," she said, adding that Malay men are happy with and tend to find contentment in having families, as well as being able to provide for the family, more than anything else.

This thinking may be changing, though. For 28-year-old Muhammad Adil, the importance of career and financial stability come much more into play in current times.

“I think for the upcoming generation and mine, we are quite balanced in a way that we put the importance of family on the same level as career since the cost of living is much higher now,” he said.

“That said, I think we will still lead (as a community) in producing the most babies, since family will always be important in the Malay community!”

Copy editor Yusuf Abdol Hamid disagreed with the idea that any traits Malay men might have could impact their birth rates.

"I think birth rates don't come down to how romantic someone is, or spontaneous even--to say that Malay men are more successful at getting their wives pregnant because of that is illogical," said the 27-year-old.

He pointed out that contrary to what Goh wrote, policies in the past made no difference to child-bearing behaviour in the Malay community, where during the two-child policy years, he said his mother never knew anyone who went to get themselves sterilised.

"Everyone (Malay Muslim families) continued having children, even with the financial penalties that came with them, and none of them were too bothered by the policies that discouraged having more," he said.

But he said things might change as Singapore's society matures, and the next generation of Malay parents may be clearly pulling away from previous ones.

"We're all still chasing the same things -- money and career first, and the rest (such as family) simply facilitate our journey there."

Muslim girl finds out Disney not the 'happiest place on earth'

Lepas baca berita kat bawah nie.. rasa macam bersyukur sangat sebab dipermudahkan Allah dalam menjalani kehidupan harian sebagai seorang muslim.. Alhamdullilah.. syukran..

Los Angeles Times,

LOS ANGELES, Aug 14: Imane Boudlal got a job two weeks after moving to California, a hostess position at a Disneyland Resort cafe.

She didn't log many hours at first — it was April, the slow season — but as the summer of 2008 progressed, the 24-year-old worked more frequently as the Grand Californian Hotel & Spa's Storyteller's Cafe drew more tourists.
It was also, Boudlal (pic) alleges in a lawsuit filed Monday, when her co-workers began taunting her, calling the Moroccan-born Muslim a "terrorist," a "camel" and someone who learned how to make bombs at her mosque. She complained to her managers verbally and in writing, she said, with no results.

Now, Boudlal is suing Walt Disney Corp. in federal court, saying that she was discriminated against and harassed for her religious beliefs. She also alleges that she unfairly lost her job in 2010 after refusing to remove her head scarf at work.

"It's been hard," Boudlal said in an interview. "I thought it was just a matter of complaining and a few days, and it wouldn't affect my life, but it turns out … nothing has been done."

The lawsuit charges that Boudlal, who is a naturalized U.S. citizen, decided to wear her hijab full time in 2010, about eight months after she began wearing it publicly. She contacted her supervisors at Disneyland to request an exemption to the company's "look" policy — general appearance guidelines that, according to a Disney website, touch on items ranging from contact lens color and visible tattoos to personal hygiene.

After weeks of discussions with company officials, the lawsuit says, Boudlal received initial approval to wear a Disney-designed scarf, but she was told it would need corporate approval before she could wear it to work. Not wanting to wait to mark Ramadan, Boudlal wore her own hijab to work Aug. 15, 2010, when she says she was told she could either remove the scarf, cover it with a hat or work in a job out of public sight.

She refused and, after a few additional meetings with Disney, filed a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The agency awarded Boudlal a notice of right to sue earlier this month, opening the door for litigation.

Disney spokeswoman Suzi Brown said the company tried to accommodate Boudlal's needs — as it has with religious requests from other employees from various faiths.

"We presented Ms. Boudlal with multiple options to accommodate her religious beliefs, as well as offered her several roles that would have allowed her to wear her own hijab," Brown said. "Unfortunately, she rejected all of our efforts and has since refused to come to work."

Mark Rosenbaum, an attorney from the ACLU of Southern California who is representing Boudlal, said his client has not been scheduled to work at the cafe since Aug. 21, 2010. He said Boudlal was suffering from "one of the byproducts" of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

"I think her experience is not unlike that of many Muslims," he said. "America was invented based on our commitment to religious freedom and that got lost or shredded after 9/11." The lawsuit, he said, "is an attempt to recapture this."

"If you're a Muslim," he said of Disneyland, "It's not the happiest place on Earth."

Shortly after Boudlal's dispute with Disney went public in 2010, another Muslim employee said she was also told that she would have to work out of sight if she chose to wear a hijab. Disney officials said they were able to reach a compromise with Noor Abdallah, then a 22-year-old intern from Chicago, and allowed her to wear a fitted blue scarf topped by a beret-style hat.

The lawsuit seeks damages for Boudlal, as well as harassment and discrimination training for Disney employees. It also asks the court to order Disney to allow Muslim employees to wear hijabs in public roles without a hat or other cover.

Boudlal has a degree in hotel management, an industry that she thought would allow her to travel the world and meet people. Now, after a quick Google search turns up news of her dispute with Disney, she doesn't think she will be hired. She said she is taking classes at Cal State Fullerton in hopes of finding a new career path.

"I just want to pick something that will get me a job," she said.

Singapore ‘will fold up’ if citizens don’t reproduce: Lee Kuan Yew

Former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew has stressed once again the need for Singaporeans to procreate.

Speaking publicly for the first time after National Day at a constituency national day celebration dinner on Saturday, Lee warned of adverse consequences if the country’s declining birth rates continue.

“If we go on like that, this place will fold up, because there’ll be no original citizens left to form the majority, and we cannot have new citizens, new PRs to settle our social ethos, our social spirit, our social norms,” he said, noting that Chinese reproduction rate is now at 1.08, Indians at 1.09 and Malays at 1.64.

“So my message is a simple one. The answer is very difficult but the problems, if we don’t find the answers, are enormous,” he added.

Lee acknowledged the pivotal role that work permit holders have played in building Singapore’s infrastructure, and the contribution of permanent residents, without which he said the country’s population would be older, smaller and would lose vitality.

Further, he noted that in the long term, Singapore’s “educated men and women must decide whether to replace themselves in the next generation”. Currently, 31 per cent of women and 41 per cent of men are choosing not to do so, he noted.

“But we’ve got to persuade people to understand that getting married is important, having children is important,” he said. “Do we want to replace ourselves or do we want to shrink and get older and be replaced by migrants and work permit holders? That’s the simple question.”

MSF to tackle problem: Chan Chun Sing

Responding to Lee’s call for solutions to Singapore’s citizen population crunch, current acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Chan Chun Sing, who will be taking on the newly-established Ministry of Social and Family development (MSF), said the latter will pursue efforts to encourage younger Singaporeans get married and start families earlier.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the same event, Chan acknowledged that the issues are “challenges that cut across different ministries”, and said there are two aspects to the population situation — material and economic, which the government will work on, reported Channel NewsAsia.

“But like what Mr Lee said, the most important aspect has to do with the less tangible... (what) we value as a society — the institution of the family,” he said as quoted by the media outlet. “How do we see the institution, and the family... these are things we really need to work on as a society because it concerns our common future.”
